MDsim: transforming spine surgery through simulation technology
MDsim was founded by three visionary brothers—Richard, Dany, and Roger Assaker—each bringing a distinct set of skills to the table. Roger, a serial entrepreneur in simulation technology, Richard, a renowned spine surgeon and professor of neurosurgery, and Dany, with a PhD in Engineering and strong experience in quality and regulations. The idea for MDsim was born during a conversation between the three of them:
“Why not employ the same predictive technology we use in aerospace and automotive industries on the human body?” This simple yet groundbreaking idea laid the foundation for MDsim.
Together, the brothers set out to revolutionize surgery by providing surgeons with cutting-edge engineering tools designed to improve surgical outcomes. Their goal was clear: bridge the gap between advanced simulation technology and the complex demands of medical practice, especially in the realm of spinal surgery.
The Assaker Brothers: expertise that drives innovation
- Roger Assaker: A serial tech entrepreneur with a wealth of experience in both the technical and business aspects of simulation technology. As the co-founder of e-Xstream engineering, Roger successfully grew the company, reaching $15 million in revenue, before leading its acquisition and tripling its growth as part of MSC.Software and Hexagon. His deep understanding of simulation technology inspired the initial concept behind MDsim.
- Richard Assaker: A world-renowned spine surgeon and professor of neurosurgery at CHU-Lille (France) and Fondation Hopale (Calot, France). With over 16,000 surgeries under his belt and more than 35 patents in medical devices, Richard brings unparalleled medical expertise to the company. His vision is to enhance patient outcomes by leveraging simulation technology that allows for precise pre-operative planning and improved decision-making.
- Dany Assaker: Holding a PhD in computational mechanics, Dany’s expertise lies in R&D, operations, and quality. His contributions were vital in achieving MDsim’s ISO 13485 certification within a year, a significant milestone for the company. His specialization in quality and regulatory frameworks ensures that MDsim adheres to the highest healthcare standards.
The Future of Spine Care
MDsim is set to redefine how surgeons approach complex procedures, ultimately improving patient outcomes worldwide. But the innovation does not stop there. MDsim’s vision extends beyond surgery, aiming to create a digital twin of the patient. This advanced technology will enable healthcare professionals to assess, monitor, and prevent spine degeneration and deformities well before surgery becomes necessary, promoting proactive and personalized care.
